Matt Nelson was first introduced to Pilates in 1991 while working towards a Masters in Fine Arts in Dance at the University of California, Irvine and it changed his life. Now, 27 years later Matt has studied with and taken workshops with such Pilates Elders as Mary Bowen, Lolita San Miquel, and master teachers Bob Liekins, Elizabeth Larkam, Julian Littleford, Dianne Difendorfer, and Michael Miller. He is fully certified in the Classical method and holds a PMA-CPT certificate too.
Previously, Matt has extensively trained with and instructed performers, musicians, and athletes from Cirque du Soleil on productions such as Zumanity, KA, O, and the Criss Angel Show. He has also helped condition and rehabilitate artists from the Celine Dion’s headlining Vegas show. In addition, he has worked with a running back from the Miami Dolphins, and a couple of advisors from President Obama’s staff. Recently, while in Atlanta Matt worked with 2 professional football players, one from that Atlanta Falcons and the number one pick from the Philadelphia Eagles Derek Barnett. Also, while there worked with Kristi Castlin, Olympic Bronze medal winner in the hurdles.
Matt did his first profession dance show in 1979 with the Greg Thompson Follies and has danced with the Seattle Repertory Theatre, Tacoma Opera, Tacoma Actors Guild, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, World Jazz Congress, Centennial Theatre Festival, and Spectrum Dance Theatre with his last performance in Las Vegas in 2010. Matt won a NEA scholar ship in 1984 to dance with the Nat Horne Music Theatre school in NY and was an understudy in the Off Broadway production Earthlings. Through out the years he has worked with dancers from Pacific Northwest Ballet, Miami City Ballet, Ballet Florida, California Ballet Theatre, and Spectrum Dance Theatre.
